Motors – Big gates

Depending on the conditions on site, we either use one or two 230/400 V, 50 hz drive motors operated via a control cabinet.

There are various options to arrange the motor layout:

 

Conventional layout
Conventionally, the motor is installed in the truss area. This layout has the disadvantage of the full load hanging from the roof supports in any door position.
A sub-construction for the motors has to be provided in the building.

For the purpose of maintenance and repairs, a walkway and access stairs must be installed in the building.
Motors can only be replaced with great difficulty.

Motor layout at working height/on supports

In this case, the motors are located at working height in the area of the lateral supports. One special advantage of this is that the hall roof has to take a considerably reduced load in the door area. The main load, created when the door is raised, is mainly absorbed by the lateral supports.

There is no need to provide a walkway and access stairs in the building.
Motors are always accessible without the need to climb any stairs, at working height and from the hall floor, resulting in quick reaction times in case of failure. There are no major disadvantages.

Motor layout in the lower box truss.
The advantage of this layout is that there is no need to provide a walkway and access stairs inside the building.

Motors are always accessible without the need to climb any stairs, at working height and from the hall floor.

Where there’s a lack of space, this layout may also be advisable when building several halls next to each other.

One disadvantage is that in case of motor breakdown requiring them to be replaced, the door has to be moved to the lower end position using a hand winch .
